Activity Log

During this week in Fine Arts with Mr. Nelson, our class learned how to do two point perspectives.  Instead of one point perspective which was easy, if you paid attention.  At the beginning of the week I thought I had it completely understood and that it would be pretty easy.  But, I was soon proved wrong when it took me half of a class period to draw the first part of the drawing which was the cross.  After I finally finished the cross, I moved on to the dome which had to be proportional or else the Brophy tower would look weird and distorted.  Two point perspectives was basically the same thing as one point except there are two vanishing points on the paper instead of one.  All of the lines that angle to the right go to the right vanishing point and also all of the lines that are parallel to those lines go to the same vanishing points.  It is the same with the lines that angle to the left of the page and those parallel to them, they angle to the left vanishing point.  As time progressed it got harder to draw the tower along with all of the details of the tower.  I had a lot of help from some of my friends that were sitting near me, so they helped me, sometimes.  But I started getting the hang of it neat the end of it.  Also, Mr. Nelson was going around helping people with their drawings and that was helpful.  When I finished measuring the tower and getting the outline of it I put some value into it and I also put shadows on the windows where they needed to be.  At the end of the week my finished work was alright, but it could have been better.

Activity Log

At the very beginning of the first week that we were learning 1 point perspectives, I thought that it would be hard to do.  But as I learned from Mr. Nelson and my classmates it became easier to do.  We started out by drawing around the classroom.  First we made a box in the center of the page to represent the room.  Then we made our vanishing point.  Mr. Nelson told us that any lines that are parallel to the vanishing point, they have to angle back towards the vanishing point.  Anything that is perpendicular to the vanishing point we draw it ‘as is’.  After we drew the two windows and doors Mr. Nelson showed us how to draw a shelf that is 3D and that jets out.  When we finished the shelf we moved on to drawing objects that go back into the wall.  When we were all done with Mr. Nelson’s classroom we headed over to Brophy Hall to draw it in a one point perspective.  After we drew all of the doors, which we had to measure with our rulers the length from the side of the door to the wall and th height of the door itself, and shelves which we made by erasing the lines of the floor, we drew the posters on the walls and we also drew the lines that were on the ceiling of Brophy Hall.  After all of that was done we had to shade it to make it look nice.  We made the doors the darkest, and next came the line that separates the wall in half which was next to the darkest.  Finally I shaded the floor and the ceiling and I made a little light spot on the ceiling to represent where the lights were.  This week I learned a lot about one point perspective drawings in Art class.
